Welcome from the Chair
As Chair of Governors at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you who view our website which is intended to provide you with an introduction to life at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest. I am immensely proud and excited about the opening of the school and contributing to its inception since the public consultation began.
The Governing Body’s role can be explained simply. First, we act as employer to the staff. That includes appointing the Head and Deputy Head, and holding them to account for the school’s performance and outcomes to ensure the quality of education provision. Second, we have a strategic role in acting as a “critical friend”, providing support to the leadership and holding its decisions up to constructive examination in the interests of the pupils. Third, we ensure the school operates within the statutory and legal framework laid down by Parliament and complies with charity and company law as well the funding agreement with Government.
The Governing Body meets four times annually. Two key committees meet regularly: Education and Business. Each committee is minuted by the Clerk to the Governing Body and has either the Deputy Head or Business Manager in attendance in addition to the Head, who attends all meetings.
I and my fellow Governors are immensely proud of this school and the high quality of education that it will offer – not only academically but also through the Leadership specialism and the many enrichment opportunities we have planned in our pursuit of excellence. We are sure our parents share our passion to create the very best future for their daughters. I am grateful to my fellow Governors, who will voluntarily devote so much time and effort to make Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest, one of the finest in the country.
