Mosaic 2016 Enterprise Challenge Competition

Five Year 7 pupils from Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest have progressed to the regional finals of the Mosaic 2016 Enterprise Challenge Competition – an impressive feat in its own right, but even more so when considering the competition is open to secondary students aged 11-16, meaning our pupils are competing against finalists who are several years older than them.

Mosaic was launched in 2007 by HRH the Prince of Wales to create mentoring opportunities for children and young people and encourage them to raise their aspirations. The initiative subsequently won the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award in 2013, as well as being endorsed by the DfE as part of its careers guidance provision.

The Mosaic 2016 Enterprise Challenge Competition is a unique inter-school competition encouraging a spirit of entrepreneurship amongst young people. Experienced professionals from the business community share their knowledge and expertise with groups of students, giving them an insight into the processes involved in establishing and running a company. With the benefit of their mentor’s guidance, students then go on to brainstorm their own business ideas and put them into action through a simulation game. The experience is an incredible opportunity for students to showcase their leadership potential and learn valuable employability skills, and the school is thrilled that a group of its girls were singled out for their initiative and talent, especially as 108 schools throughout the country originally signed up to take part.

Our winning team now has to devise their own original business plan and deliver a presentation in front of other competing schools and a panel of judges. The regional finals are taking place at Ernst and Young in Canary Wharf, London on the 16th March 2016, and we wish our girls the best of luck!

Update

Eden wins the Regional finals, making them the youngest ever winners in the history of the Mosaic Enterprise Challenge. They now make their way to the National finals on the 4th of May 2016. We wish our girls the best of luck!
