Pupils celebrate GCSE achievements

Teachers and pupils at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results.

The coronavirus pandemic meant that GCSE exams were cancelled this year and, instead, pupils were awarded grades based on their overall performance throughout their course.

But despite uncertainty in the run up to this year’s results day, the pupils at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest still had many reasons to celebrate.

For Khadija Hussain, her results were particularly meaningful and teachers say her achievements were due to her sheer hard work and commitment to study. The pupil, who is registered Severely Sight Impaired, achieved an excellent set of GCSEs which include six grade 6s, two grade 5s and one grade 4, and now intends to study A-Levels in Maths, English and Business Studies at the Joseph Clarke School in London.

Khadija told how despite facing additional challenges she always felt supported by her parents, sister and teachers at the school who all helped her to achieve her very best. She said:

“I am incredibly grateful to my family, my teachers, and in particular the school’s SENCO, Miss Attas, who have all encouraged me to aim high. I am so glad that I will be able to go onto the next stage of my studies and am very excited about starting my A-Levels. I would say to anyone who is facing additional challenges during their education to always believe in yourself, have faith in your own abilities and make friends wherever you can. I have made so many friends at Eden Girls’ School and their support has meant the world to me.

Khadija’s father, Tufail, praised his daughter, who he said had shown extraordinary commitment to her studies, and the support given to her by staff at Eden Girls’ School. He said:

“Khadija is an extraordinary student and has always been a determined child. Whenever she encountered a challenge, she put in extra work so that she could continue to make progress. She has been a true inspiration to me and to all of us in our family and we feel incredibly lucky to have such a shining star in our lives. The school has worked hard to support us all and has even helped to supply specialist equipment to help Khadija with her learning. We are just so incredibly grateful for all their support.”

Shahina Ahmad, Principal at Eden Girls’ School, Waltham Forest, told how Khadija had always impressed teachers with her work ethic. She said:

“Khadija has been an exceptional pupil and we have enjoyed watching her confidence grow over the years. We will always remember Khadija for her commitment to her studies and for her sheer hard work. She is a phenomenal pupil and we know that she has a very bright future ahead of her.”
